New projects in town

And again reading the morning newspaper evokes somewhat sad thoughts over the situation of Warsaw’s architecture and urban planning… As you probably know more than 80 % of the buildings in the city had been totally destroyed during the II WW and we had to start to reconstruct everything from the beginning, not always with happy results. But if you think that we managed to do entirely you’re very much mistaken 馃槈 There are still some places which wait to be rebuilt or reconstructed or rearranged or reorganised or re-anything.

So the question is: do these places need to be an exact copy of the pre-war buildings? Or should we rather think about something new? Or maybe the best solution is to be inspired by the old architecture but to create buildings which correspond with the present-day standards? I don’t know the answer but I’m more for the third option. Respect the past but look forward.
